Discover SCUBA (DSD) is a short try-diving experience for adults and children ages 10+. This session introduces you to the basics of SCUBA diving without certifying you as a diver. The DSD program is a half-day activity, so it is ideal for those interested in trying SCUBA in a swimming pool, before investing much time or money in an actual certification course.

The PADI DSD program typically involves a detailed briefing on the effects of water pressure, underwater communication, equipment use, and diving safety, included in a video.  Then you’re ready to go!

The session involves confined water practice in a swimming pool. During this time, the candidate experiences breathing through a regulator and swimming efficiently in diving gear. You will also be shown a few simple skills from the Open Water Diver course.

During the DSD program, you will become familiar with the use of basic SCUBA gear including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device (BCD), dive gauges, and a SCUBA cylinder. You will also receive information about how to become part of the diving community upon completion of the program. Most importantly, you will build the self-confidence required to fully immerse yourself in the diving world.

Even though we no longer conduct group DSD sessions, private Discover SCUBA sessions are available by appointment.

Our private DSD sessions require a meeting at our facility prior to the scheduled pool date, in order to complete an application form, view the required 30-minute video and have your questions answered.

The pool portion (confined water) is conducted at a heated indoor community pool on select Sundays for 1.5 hours and will include all personal and major SCUBA equipment.
